Our Fantastical Fusion entries were no less than fantastical. Each and every fusion captured the imagination of the artist and the spirits of their fused species.

While the art itself was delightful, so was learning about the animals. Several of the artists offered detailed explanations about their species alongside demonstrating those characteristics in their entry. There were several entries with less detailed explanations, but the art highlighted the personality of their species quite well. Here's a shoutout to a few entries that we learned from: Rowan & Oakley, Bitte, Nymphia, Caroline, Polis and Metlyma.

Understanding the artists' strategic process aided in furthering the expression of their horse tremendously. Without the artist's comment, it was unclear that the horse's pose is purposeful or that the eye color is significant. With the artist's comment, the puzzle pieces clasped together. For this theme, the purpose of the artist's comment was not just for comprehensive value. The comment also brought artistic value since it had the capacity to bring each horse to life.

Through and through, we were surprised with the entries in different ways. A couple of the entries referenced a species that the artists grew to like. Their choice was unique since the natural impulse is to choose a favorite or a highly admired species. Another unique take on the theme was the alligator entry. Besides that it was the only reptile fusion, it was a completely unexpected combination. Lastly, the theatrics of the narwhal fusion was breathtaking. The artist hoped that the art captured the dramatics that their inspiration was taken from. We can attest that the effect on us, as viewers, was cinematic.
